FFA SOIL JUDGING

The 2011 Local FFA Soil Judging Contest

The soil judging contest will take place in the fall.

Each year the Auglaize Soil and Water Conservation District organizes a soil judging event for all the high school agricultural FFA classes.  The schools divide their students into teams of four students.  Each student is scored individually and with their team.

In the Rural contest, students answer questions about land description, land capability, land use and recommended conservation practices.  Land description sub-categories included slope, erosion or depth of topsoil, texture of surface soil, depth of soil and natural drainage ability.

In the Urban event, students answer questions about soil properties, asked to give an overall rating for the land and submit recommended management practices.  The soil properties included slope, landform, flood hazard, soil stability, soil texture, depth to seasonal high water table and depth to bedrock.
